Sid Spurgeon grew up in Pendleton, a small town in Oregon. He graduated from high school in 1967 and graduated from Washington State University in 1971 with a B.A. in History. During his years in college Sid worked as a smokejumper during the summer and after college graduation he began a career as a Social Studies teacher. He taught in three different Oregon high schools from 1973-2006. Throughout most of his life Sid was active in some sport or another.
He settled on football when he went to college and stays very active physically after college which includes a lot of time in a gym somewhere. Now at age 77 he goes to a gym five days a week, but he's intelligent enough to avoid competing with some strong, fit, young 30 year old man. Mostly though he just prefers a healthy life. He began writing six years ago "Just to see if I could write a book. I could." He's had all his books published and word from the author himself is that they are, "dang good books."
After he wrote his first book, he "didn't want to be a one hit wonder" so he just kept writing and having a good time while he did it. He says, "It's nice to be seventy-seven. My brain hasn't leaked too much." Writing, in his mind, has been a blessing. He says, "I'm able to get all those words to make sense and be interesting at the same time. What a good deal."
